"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest" (Joshua 1:9).
We live in a time when changes in our culture are taking place at a rapid rate. There is much turmoil in nations around the world and much uncertainty about the future of our economy.
I recently had a conversation with two young men who asked me about my outlook for the future. The young men expressed their concern about several issues and seemed surprised with the response that my outlook is optimistic. So in this message I answer that question.
We first look at concerns about government. There is much concern that the government now authorizes actions which are forbidden in the Word of God, but it is our responsibility to stand firm for what is right.
We also look at our source of comfort and at the reasons for which I can say my outlook is optimistic. Knowing that God is sovereign, that he knows every plot among men and has the power to intervene, gives us hope.
We then look at concerns relating to finances. We acknowledge that the problems being faced in our day are very real but we find out hope in our heavenly Father who has promised to provide for us. We not only consider the source of our help and comfort but also our ongoing responsibilities.
Finally we look at concerns relating to ongoing trials. We must bow in submission when there are trials we cannot understand but seek to honor the Lord in the way we respond to them.
