God and His Attributes

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you – 2 Corinthians 13:14

In this single verse we have, not only each person of the Trinity clearly named, but also each of their distinctive roles in salvation summarized.

It was because of God the Father’s everlasting love that he sent his only Son into the world to take on human flesh, live in a sin-cursed world, and finally die a horrible death on behalf of his people. It was the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ (not the nails, and definitely not your worth) that kept him on the cross as his Father poured upon him an eternity of wrath for the sins of his people. And it is the communion of the Holy Ghost—as he irresistibly and lovingly and transformingly takes up residence in our hearts—that allows us to now enjoy the sanctifying, hope-providing, love-inspiring salvation of God right here and now.

May this grace, this love, this communion be ever with you, ever on your mind, ever influencing your decisions, ever saturating your life’s work. May this Trinitarian display of almighty, all-loving, all-sufficient mercy be your guide and hope and delight.
