"Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light" (John 12:35-36).
In this passage we first observe a contrast. The contrast between light and darkness is emphasized throughout scripture.
We then see a warning. Those who walk in darkness do not know where they are going.
Next there is an admonition. Jesus appealed to the people to believe in the light and walk in the light.
And finally we see an urgency. Jesus would soon be going away, and so he reminds them that just for a little while the light is with you. The matter of believing in the light is not something to be postponed, but we are to believe and walk in the light for today is the day of salvation.
