“For to me to live is Christ” (Philippians 1:21).
To be a Christian involves more than being brought up in a Christian family, attending church or even being baptized.
So first we consider the question, What did this expression mean to Paul? When we note other things that he says in this epistle, we see that he considered Christ not just to be the Savior of his soul but the Lord of his life.
Next we ask the question, What does this expression mean to you? Are you convicted by it when you see your failures, or inspired by to more diligently follow Paul’s example?
And finally we ask, What should the phrase mean to you?
